At Thomas Jefferson Intermediate School, we believe in creating a supportive inclusive environment where every student has the opportunity to grow and thrive. To achieve this, we integrate the New Jersey Positive Behavior Support in Schools (NJPBSIS) framework with restorative justice practices, fostering a culture of respect, responsibility, and community.
NJPBSIS is a comprehensive approach that promotes positive behavior and prevents negative behavior through proactive strategies. By setting clear expectations and reinforcing positive behavior, we create a school environment where students feel safe, valued, and motivated to succeed. This model not only encourages academic achievement but also supports students’ social and emotional development, helping them build the skills necessary for lifelong success.
In addition to NJPBSIS, we implement restorative justice practices, which emphasize repairing harm and restoring relationships rather than simply punishing students for misbehavior. When conflicts arise, we focus on open communication, understanding different perspectives, and finding solutions that address the root causes of the issue. This approach helps students learn from their mistakes, develop empathy, and take responsibility for their actions.
By combining NJPBSIS and restorative justice, we provide a holistic approach to student growth. Our students learn to navigate challenges, resolve conflicts peacefully, and contribute positively to our school community. Ultimately, these models help us cultivate a school culture where every student is empowered to grow both academically and personally. We are also committed to embodying our school’s core values: respect, organization, authenticity, and resilience.
